Mellitus Pelican

Leadership and service are delicate arts, like the blowing of fine glass. Each requires a precise touch, to spin beads or touch lives; too heavy and both will shatter, too light and nothing will come of the work. One who has shown this care and precision is Mellitus of Rouncivale, the Père du Verre of Calontir. How many lives has he shaped? How many nobles have improved through his endless service to the glassworkers, the water bearers, and all those who seek a place and acceptance in the heart of the heartland.

Call now the Kingdom’s historian and let him be a part of its history once again. To the Laurel of his station add the Pelican, its sacrifice a symbol of his long years of labor. There is no honor we would deny him, nor greater honor we can think to give; for none have served the Kingdom better, and few have been his equal.

Done on the __ day of ___________, Anno Societatis 59, being 2024 in the common reckoning of years.

(Notes: The goal of this text was to be as evocative to Mellitus’ life, career, and impact as possible. Hence the focus on glass blowing, life shaping, and representation. It was important to the people around Mellitus that the phrase ‘Glass Daddy’ be worked in, as it is meaningful to him; hence the French ‘Père du Verre‘, which literally means ‘Father of Glass’. It was an honor to write this text for such an important person in Calontir’s history)
