January 6th, 2021, is the closest the United States of America has ever come to a coup. We witnessed a fascist putsch attempt to overthrow a free and fair democratic election to install an autocratic dictator. We witnessed thousands of traitors attempt to destroy our Republic.

The Republic stands, but barely.

The man who inspired that putsch, who called for it, and who could not even speak about it but to call those fascists special and loved, remains the President of the United States today. That is an insult to democracy, to our history, and to our republic.

I understand you are in a difficult spot, because many of those fascists are the supporters you have courted for your own personal ambition. You’ve tried to walk the line of encouraging them but not encouraging them too much, and it has blown up in all of our faces.

But now is the time for you to act on the morality and conscience you love to lecture others about. Now is the time for you to show the leadership you like to talk about, and show the world that you actually give one single damn about this country. Now is the time when you must support the immediate impeachment of Donald Trump, his conviction, and disqualification from holding further office.

As Ulysses S. Grant famously said “There are but two parties now, traitor & patriot.” I know I want to be ranked with the latter, Senator. The only remaining question is whether you do as well.

Impeach the President. Preserve the Republic. Or may your name be remembered through the endless ages of history as a nursemaid of the treason which may destroy us if there are no consequences.

The power to preserve the union is literally in your hands.
